- Apple II gaming is alive and well:

-- A new version of MazeM by Ventzislav Tzvet gives Apple IIGS gamers
another way to while away the hours by running through mazes.  The game
plus a review of the tools used in creating it can be downloaded at:

-- Eamon gamers will want to check out Matthew Clark's website at:  
http://www.eamonag.org/ This site contains the full, official archive of
Eamon games playable on the Apple II.

- A bugfix has been made in the popular QForth programming language.  Ron
Kneusel has released QForth 2.4, which, among other items, allows for
timing routines to be read from the IIGS clock, functionality of graphic
words in lo- and hires, and printer control.  To download the program and
get more information on the updates, go to:

- Syndicomm is now distributing the beta release of Marinetti 3.0b1 on
floppy disk.  This release does not contain the printed programming
documentation and on-disk source code that the CD-ROM edition includes.  
This release sells for $4.00 US and can be ordered at:

- Richard Hall, the current owner of AV Systems Software has placed all of
the company's Apple II titles into freeware status.  These programs which
contain distillations of public domain software are mostly DOS 3.3 based,
but should run under ProDOS.  They can be downloaded from his ftp site:  
ftp://206.124.141.169 Use the login name AVSystems and note that it is
case sensitive.  Since no password is required, just hit "return" at that
prompt.

-Emulation News

Several announcements were made concerning upgrades to current Apple II
emulation products:

-- Mac OS X users will want to try out the latest incarnation of Axel
Bauer's version 0.8b of OSXII.  This version fixes a bug in the sound
routine, and has been updated for OS X Panther 10.3.  It can be downloaded

-- If you've always wanted to set up a BBS, you might be interested in
Terry Olsen's efforts:  he's running a METAL BBS under the KEGS emulator
on a Gateway computer.  His online discussion on getting this working can
be found at: http://fire.prohosting.com/tolsen64/

-- KEGS has also been ported to run on the Microsoft XBox gaming system.  
The ability to play Apple II and other retro-computing platforms comes to
your living room with downloads at:  
http://xport.xbox-scene.com/emutemplate.php?emu=kegsx  Screenshots are
available too, for people with graphical browsers.

-- AppleWin has been upgraded to allow better color emulation for hires
graphics, and to fix a problem with Mockingboard emulation.  It also
includes a color TV emulation mode.  Information and downloading
instructions for this Apple //e emulator can be found at:
